Situated on the southern most tip of Texas lays a pristine Island,
South Padre Island. Known for it's breathtaking sunsets and warm weather
year-round, South Padre is rated amongst the top ten beaches of America.
Beyond the physical beauty lays something greater...spirituality.
South Padre Island is home to the most unique Jewish Community, 100
proud Jewish residents eager to display and enhance their Jewish identity.
In March 2003, the Jewish community of South Padre Island established
"Shuva Yisroel", a center for Jewish life and awareness
in a rented facility. In the summer of 2003, a young stendt Rabbi
by the name of Eli Laber was sent by the Chabad Organization to assist
the needs of the community. Initially starting as community prayer
services for Friday Night and Shabbat Day, the love and passion for
Judaism increased dand the community expanded their programs to include
a Sunday school for children, High- Holiday services, Adult Education
Classes and more.
Per the request of many families on the Island, and with the help
of the community leaders - namely "Menashe Amoyal". a
Summer Day camp was established for the children living on the Island
and the surrounding cities. The camp has now developed into a full
overnight program, attracting children from around the country.
Over the past two years, the programming and involvement has increased
dramatically causing the community to come to the realization that
they are in need of their own Community Center. They have begun
the construction of a center which will have a Synagogue, Mikve,
Kosher kitchen, classrooms and more. While the locals have largely
sponsored the funding of this new initiative, the Jewish community
of SPI is in need of your financial assistance to complete this
meaningful project.
With hope and prayers we will complete the building and fulfill
our goal of living a proud and meaningful Jewish life for our community,
for our children, for the A-mighty.
Sincerely,
Shoova Israel Congregation
